Why Draw from Life? (Part One)

I've received questions from several readers about the
purpose of life drawing in the creation of fantasy art, and
indeed this seems to be a common theme--over the years
I've been asked this many times, and some of these inquiries
have been from fellow fantasy artists, who see the realism of life
drawing as a detriment to flights of invented fancy.
I obviously don't agree, and will have a lot to say on the subject in
upcoming posts--in the meantime here a few recent examples
from our local weekly sessions.

Your life drawing posts make me want to get back into a figure drawing session again. I quit going a few years back feeling uninspired...the old motto of figure drawing being "the art of drawing bored , tired people" had set in for me!
